NASHOBA PUBLISHING
-- November 2005
Local humor writer gives
birth to a kitchen and a new parenting humor
book
GROTON -- Humor writer Kathryn
Mahoney is releasing her first book, Cracked
at Birth: One Madcap Mom’s Thoughts on
Motherhood, Marriage & Burnt Meatloaf
in November 2005 (Wyatt-MacKenzie Publishing,
Inc.). The book features her hilarious personal
accounts as a wife and mother on everything
from the day Underwear Man and Diaper Boy first
appeared in her living room to the traumatic
kitchen renovation she equates to the pain and
joy of childbirth.
Mahoney uses her wit to not
only poke fun at herself, but to also encourage
the reader to look at their own lives and find
the humor about the situations that might ordinarily
drive them crazy.
“Sometimes I think we all tend to take
life a little too seriously,” Mahoney
explains. “My goal of the book was to
allow the reader to sit back, put their feet
up, and take some time out to just laugh.”
Cracked at Birth is a compilation of
60 of Mahoney’s best columns that have
been featured over the last four years by Nashoba
Publishing, on Mahoney’s Web site www.CrackedatBirth.com,
and on the humor site SanityCentral.com.
And although this is Mahoney’s first book,
she has contributed to a number of parenting
Web sites as well as to another parenting anthology
entitled, Misadventures of Moms and Disasters
of Dads.
When asked about the title of the book, Mahoney
commented, “The book is an extension of
my humor column, 'Sunny Side Up,' which
focuses on looking at the sunny side of life
and also happens to be a popular way to cook
eggs. I started brainstorming the whole egg
concept and eventually came up with 'Cracked
at Birth.' I thought it not only sounded funny,
but it also fit my cracked view of how I look
at life.”
Autographed copies of Mahoney’s book are
now available on her Web site at www.CrackedatBirth.com.
The book can also be ordered from Amazon.com,
BarnesandNoble.com, and will be available at
select area bookstores starting in November.
